AARNet is a partner in two demonstrator projects that support the supply of digitised collections for the purposes of research reuse.  AARNet's involvement has been two-fold: curatorial (the approach to providing collections "as data" and the development of "bulk" reference datasets) and technical (the use of CloudStor group allocations and file sharing, FileSender function and API, and integration with Jupyter notebooks, to support human to machine data flows).

Demonstrator project #1

  • HASS DEVL (Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences - Data Enhanced Virtual Lab)
  • Strategic partner: National Library of Australia
  • Collections: Australian Government Gazettes: 1832-1968 (material already digitised)
  • Research data value: meets the needs of political, economic, and social history researchers

Demonstrator project #2

  • Cinderella Collections
  • Strategic partner: ANU Library
  • ANU Collection: Sydney Stock Exchange and Share List: 1901-1950, Noel Butlin Archive (material will be digitised by ANU Library)
  • Research data value: meets the needs of political, economic, and social history researchers

This paper reports on progress to date, and the critical dialogue between the project teams, on matters curatorial and technical.
